Thread count is a measure of fabrics quality of bedding comforter sets like down comforter, duvet, and duvet covers. What is thread count? Thread count is the amount of threads used per every square inch of fabric both horizontal and vertical. Count thread average from lowest (80) to highest (1200). Most are usually between 180 and 300, and higher quality above of 300. This measure of mostly refers to bed linens like bed bag and pillowcases. Thread count bedding is affected by two things, ply and thickness of the threads used. The ply and thickness of the fabric thread count are indicators of quality of comforter down. The number of threads refered by the ply that are wrapped into a single or two thread. Single-ply refers to single threads used in the fabric construction. Two-ply refers to materials that twist two threads together into a single thread, thus increasing the number of sheets thread count and make thread more stronger. Thickness refers to the diameter of the thread used to the fabric.
The higher the thread count, the more luxurious and soft of the comforter. The higher tread count means more threads, more lighter and more breathable if campared with the lower. The lower bedding thread count may wear more poorly than a sheet set of higher thread count. That’s why comforter sets with a higher thread count will have added longevity and will withstand more washings and activity. The best quality and the higher thread count is Egyptian cotton bedding.
